Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing strategy in which brands pay affiliates for promoting their products or services and generating leads or sales. It’s a cost-effective way to grow your audience because you only pay for actual results.
The process works in a straightforward manner. Affiliates share tracking links via blogs, websites, social media or email marketing. When someone clicks on a link and performs an action (like purchasing something or signing up for something), the affiliate receives a commission. This means affiliate marketing is low-risk and high-reward for brands.
To be successful with affiliate marketing, you first need to choose the right niche and the right products that fit your audience’s needs. As a digital marketer, I look for products that are relevant to my audience and that I can trust, so they will convert and enhance my credibility with them.
In affiliate marketing, the content is very important. Companies and affiliates can build trust through creating reviews of products, creating how-to guides for their use, comparing similar products to each other (to show the advantages of one over another), and engaging with their followers/fans through social media. Search engine optimization (SEO) and social media marketing often work hand-in-hand, together to drive traffic to affiliate links.
Tracking and analyzing results (using metrics such as clicks, conversions, commissions, etc.) allows for adjustments to be made to your marketing strategy.
